What is Dyspraxia?

Dyspraxia, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), affects physical coordination and planning of movements. It can impact fine and gross motor skills and can affect speech and organisational abilities.

Challenges Children May Face at School

  • Difficulty with handwriting, tying shoelaces, or using scissors

  • Clumsiness and problems with balance or coordination

  • Challenges in organising tasks or following sequences

  • Difficulty participating in sports or physical activities

How We Support Children with Dyspraxia at School

  • Occupational therapy support and fine motor skills activities

  • Providing extra time for tasks requiring co-ordination

  • Offering alternative ways to complete tasks

  • Breaking instructions into smaller, manageable steps

  • Supporting organisation and time management skills

Working in Partnership with Families

  • Sharing activities to improve motor skills at home

  • Coordinating with therapists and external agencies

  • Discussing adaptations to support learning and independence

Celebrating Strengths and Progress

Children with dyspraxia often have excellent verbal and creative skills. We encourage confidence and celebrate all progress, big or small.
