Provision for SEND at Riverview

What do we mean by the term ‘Special Educational Needs’?

Definition of Special Educational Needs from the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice: for 0-25 years (2014):

A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

  • Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or
  • Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.

At The Riverview Academy, we strive to support all children to enable them to achieve their best at school. In order to do this successfully, many steps are taken to support our children through their learning journey.

Quality first teaching is essential; however for some children there are occasions when further additional support may be required .
Information regarding how we support our children and the type of interventions we can offer can be found in our SEND information report. There is also information on the Code of Practice.

Together we can make a real difference to the opportunities your child can enjoy.

Our Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion is Miss F Walsh.
