Houses of Riverview
At The Riverview Academy, every child becomes part of something bigger – a House team that connects them to our community, our values, and our love for reading. Each child, upon joining our school, will be placed into one of our four Houses. These Houses are named in honour of beloved characters from the works of Charles Dickens, one of England’s most famous writers – and someone with a special local connection.
Dickens spent part of his childhood in the nearby town of Chatham, and later returned to live at Gad’s Hill Place in Higham, just a few miles from our school. His stories continue to inspire readers of all ages, and we are proud to celebrate that legacy through our House system.
Our Houses reflect not only Dickens’s rich characters, but also the values we hope to nurture in all our children – kindness, resilience, and teamwork.
🟦 Copperfield House (Blue)
Named after David Copperfield, a character who overcomes hardship with determination and compassion. Copperfield House stands for perseverance and empathy.🟩 Nickleby House (Green)
Inspired by Nicholas Nickleby, a spirited young man who defends what’s right and cares for others. Nickleby House champions integrity and courage.🟥 Pickwick House (Red)
Celebrating the cheerful and generous Mr. Pickwick from The Pickwick Papers, this House represents friendship and good humour.🟨 Weller House (Yellow)
Taking its name from the witty and loyal Sam Weller, known for his clever words and big heart. Weller House values loyalty and quick thinking.
Throughout the year, children earn points for their Houses by showing our school values, working hard in lessons, being kind to others, and joining in with events and competitions.
We believe that our House system helps every child feel a sense of belonging, pride, and healthy competition, while deepening our love of literature and connecting us to the rich history of our local area.
Welcome to the Houses of Riverview – where every child is part of the story!
