Dysgraphia (SpLD)

Dysgraphia

What is Dysgraphia?

Dysgraphia is a learning difficulty that affects handwriting and written expression. It can make writing tiring, slow, or messy, and children may struggle to organise their ideas on paper.

Challenges Children May Face at School

  • Poor handwriting and letter formation

  • Slow writing speed

  • Spelling and punctuation difficulties

  • Trouble structuring written work

  • Frustration or avoidance of writing tasks

How We Support Children with Dysgraphia at School

  • Use of assistive technology (keyboards, speech-to-text)

  • Writing frames

  • Alternative methods to show learning

  • Extra time and reduced writing loads

Working in Partnership with Families

  • Sharing exercises to improve fine motor skills

  • Coordinating with occupational therapists if involved

  • Offering strategies for supporting writing at home

Celebrating Strengths and Progress

Many children with dysgraphia have excellent verbal skills and creativity. We celebrate all attempts and encourage self-expression in various forms.
